1. Silencio (still your heart before Him)

Get settled and comfortable again. Quiet your soul before Him.

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”” (Matt. 28:20)

He is here. Come to an awareness of His Presence. Thank Him for His Presence. Enjoy the sweetness of His Presence.

Give all your attention to Him.

2. Lectio (eat the scroll)

When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth… and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:13–14)

Holy Spirit is here to release revelation to your Spirit. Nothing matters more than what He has planned for this time.

Read the below scripture portion slowly and out loud.

Use your imagination to picture yourself as part of the setting.

Resist the temptation to analyze or judge the text or use the text to develop a message for someone else.

Listen as if God were speaking directly to you. He is.

The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. Write therefore the things that you have seen, those that are and those that are to take place after this. As for the mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands, the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. (Re 1:10–20)

3. Meditatio (meditate)

Read the scripture portion again, slowly, pausing to let the words sink deeply into your mind and heart. Try to avoid ‘studying’ the Word to unravel its mysteries. Rather, allow Him to speak to your heart.

I saw… one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength

The most important thing to understand about this vision is that John is seeing a vision of the glorious ‘one like a son of man’ in Daniel 7:9-14.

“As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire. A stream of fire issued and came out from before him; a thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the court sat in judgment, and the books were opened… and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. (Da 7:9–14)

The first way the book of Revelation presents Jesus is as the one like the Son of Man in Daniel 7, to whom Father God gives “dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”

What situation in your life do you need to see with the perspective of Jesus as the eternal king?

As He speaks and His living Word flows, give His words all your attention.

Without overspiritualizing and without getting stuck on the (perhaps many) details you do not clearly understand, what does God seem to be saying to you?

4. Oratio (converse with Him about His Living Word in you)

Respond.

Ask Him: ‘Abba Father, please show me my life circumstances and decisions through the lens of Jesus’ second coming to consummate His eternal rule.’

Talk to God about your inward movements:

Respond from your heart to what God is saying.

Converse with God.jpg

5. Contemplatio (wait on Him)

Ask and listen for more of what He’s saying.

Linger quietly, patiently in His Presence.

Await His living Words.

As He speaks, yield fully to him. If you notice resistance, rebellion, defiance, or trepidation in your heart, repent of these things and yield your heart without reservation to Him. Ask for His help.

Entrust your past, present, and future to the Lord in light of what he has spoken.

[OPTIONAL FOR LONGER PRAYER JOURNEYS]

  1. Adoratio (worship Him)

Conclude your time at this well with thanksgiving and adoration.

Thank God for what He has given you here.

Use the worship song on the right if you like, or any other song and approach that best brings your heart of adoration before the Lord on this topic.

Pour out your adoration for our most holy, worthy God.

7. MEDITATE ON THE SECOND ASPECT OF THIS IMAGE OF JESUS

Before walking to Station 2, stay in this spot and meditate on the second aspect of this same image of Jesus in Revelation Ch1
